TASTE OF THAI SELECT: Sawasdee Thai Cuisine

Just north of Bloor Street on Yonge Street in Toronto lives Sawasdee Thai Cuisine, a simple little place that offers Thai food to the downtown business crowd and Yorkville locals. With a simple, clean interior and a lovely large patio out front, Sawasdee is definitely a must visit if you're in the area.

We arrived on a quiet Sunday night and were served a few basic dishes that highlight the classic Thai cuisine that is most popular here. With real Thai chefs and authentic Thai ingredients, Sawasdee is sure to please the Toronto palate.

Mango Salad with Cashews

We started off with a mango salad that had a nice crunch. Fresh mango slices were mixed with carrot and onion in a light tasting sauce with cashews on top.

Pad See Ew

After the mango salad, we tried the Pad See Ew, which is a hearty combination of noodles, chicken and vegetables. Once again the taste was mild enough even for the less adventurous eater.

Fried Rice with Tofu

We also had fried rice, Thai style. A simple dish with rice, tofu and vegetables, served with some lovely raw fruit and vegetable slices as a garnish. The tofu was beautifully cooked and had just the right amount of crispy texture to complement the rice.

If you frequent Yonge and Bloor and are looking for some authentic Thai cooking, head up a bit north on the East side of the street (just past Canadian Tire) and check out Sawasdee Thai Cuisine.
