TASTE OF THAI SELECT: Thai House

Thai House, situated at 2213 Queen Street East in the Beaches part of Toronto has been building its reputation in the area for over a decade. Opened about 10 years ago, it has been serving authentic Thai food since day one. Two years ago new owners took over and have been responding to the changing trends in the area by adding new and exciting dishes, yet also maintaining their original menu for folks who have been long-time regulars.

Although rather modest from the outside, Thai House has a wonderful and cozy diningroom that is sure you make you feel comfortable. We sat near the front window which was open to the street. A lovely breeze and the hustle and bustle of the city graced our table while we ate. They suggest that we try the fixed price menu, which was an absolute feast!

Cold Rolls

These deliciously fresh and crispy cold rolls are served with two different dipping sauces: a very nice plum sauce, and a hoisin-based house made sauce that was excellent. The rolls themselves had a nice combination of tofu, egg and fresh veggies.

Crab Rangoon

This unique dish consists of imitation and a creamy sauce served in crispy wontons. A sweet plum sauce is included for dipping.

Tom Yum Soup

Thai House's version of classic Thai lemongrass soup, this dish has a strong lemongrass flavour and is slightly spicy. It contains tender mushroom pieces. Also available with shrimp.

Goong Pad Pong Karee

Goong Pad Pong Karee (Stir-fried shrimp in curry powder) is one of our favourite dishes. Fresh shrimp in creamy egg curry sauce, contrasts with celery lightness. Must try!

Khoa Soi (Northern Thai Curry Noodle)

This dish is full of flavour. Seasoned chicken topped with crispy egg noodles gives this dish an excellent combination of textures. This is a traditional Northern Thai taste.

Tamarind Tofu

This dish is a lovely meal consisting of fresh veggies, expertly prepared tofu and a sweet tamarind sauce. The included greens and cucumbers added a nice crunch between bites of the main dish. It was nice to have a hearty dish with such a refreshing flavour.

Mango Sticky Rice

You couldn't ask for a better way to end a delicious meal! Sticky rice and coconut milk accompany the most gorgeous presentation of thin mango slices. It was sweet and rich, but perfectly complemented by the mango which added a refreshing taste.

If you live in the Toronto Beaches area and haven't yet tried Thai House, they would love to see you!
